 waste wise event

Casino Beef Week Festival 2009 is shaping up to be a ‘Waste Wise Event’ with this year’s festival aiming to be clean and green. The introduction of waste reduction initiatives and recycling facilities will aim to minimise the festival’s impact on the local environment.

Beef Week President Stuart George said , "As a Waste Wise Event we are focused on waste reduction as a priority. All Saturday stallholders will be encouraged to minimise packaging, use refillable bulk containers such as sauce, avoid plastic and recycle where possible.  These small steps will not only help reduce litter on our streets, but will also reduce the waste ending up in landfill and so save valuable energy and resources too”.

To help the recycling systems work, the event organisers are encouraging all festival visitors and stallholders “to use the right bin”.  Recycling bins will be provided along Barker Street for aluminium drink cans and for plastic bottles and stallholders can also recycle their cardboard.

To add to the Carnival atmosphere, street performers ‘Secondhand Rose’ & ‘PET’ will be dropping by in their mobile home “The Green House” to show how being waste wise is definitely ‘no bull’!

This joint initiative between the Casino Beef Week Event Organisers, Richmond Valley Council and the North East Waste Forum will establish Casino Beef Week as a model for other ‘clean and green’ events in Northern NSW.

Do us all a favour and ‘keep it clean and green at Beef Week’.
